Sunscreen Safety and Zinc Oxide
Let’s face it, sunscreen seems to be an important part of summertime life! Or maybe I should say life in the sun! Recommended use has changed from “when needed” to everyday. Since our skin absorbs what we put on it, the chemical ingredients that are used in most commercial sunscreens (and skincare) get absorbed into our body and are causing health issues, including cancer and hormone imbalance!
Here is a list of what they are finding to be causing most of the problems.
- Oxybenzone
- Avobenzone
- Homosalate
- Octinoxate
- Octocrylene
- Octisalate
Not only are these causing problems in humans, but also found to be harmful to the marine life in lakes and oceans!
Now the good news! Zinc oxide is completely natural and safe for all! It works by reflecting the sun’s rays and is not absorbed into the skin. It also gives a broader spectrum of protection than the chemicals.
This is what we use in our sunscreen! The SPF is a minimum of 50 and it also contains aloe vera gel which along with the goat milk, adds extra healing and soothing to keep your skin soft, supple rather than dry and tight.
If you have a sunburn, this will protect your skin from getting worse while helping to heal the burned area.
Zinc is also fantastic for rashes (including poison ivy and diaper rash), eczema and blemishes!
